Originally from Sydney, at the age of 10 Renee Kingsley moved with her family to Brisbane and found her home at Hope City Church. As an active part of Hope’s Brisbane campus, Renee’s passion for Jesus saw her involved with the youth program and worship and creative arts teams. But a growing and deepening passion for introducing people to the love of Jesus and a burden for the country of Japan that lead her to pack her bags, in March, 2011 and move to Osaka, Japan.
Now working in Jesus Café House, Renee teaches three adult English classes. Each class is run once a week, three times a month. At the end of each class Renee shares a verse from the Bible and talks it through with her students.
“I recently changed this sharing just one verse to reading one story from a children’s Bible and talking about it instead. This week when we read the story of Jesus being conceived in Mary by the Holy Spirit, a student said, with obvious surprise in their voice, that for the first time the Bible was really interesting for them. They repeated this three times. They said they’re excited to find out what happened next in Jesus’ life next week” Renee said.
“I had the opportunity to share with the student the moment that I personally realised that these stories are real. That Jesus’ birth is actually documented not just in the Bible but in other history books, too. That God is real and that He loves them and the reason that Jesus came was to be able to have relationship with them. It was a really powerful moment.”
Meeting Renee you would quickly glean she is full of life, down-to-earth and a lot of fun. She doesn’t claim to be ‘super-gifted’ or closer to God than your ‘average Joe’. She would tell you that she is just wildly in love with Jesus and has a great desire for those around her to discover and live life with that same love.
“I’m in awe of how God is answering a prayer that was started more than five years ago. God is clearly drawing this student into His heart. Each of us is so different. For some it takes longer than for others; but God knows our hearts and only He knows how to expertly pull us in” Renee said. “Please pray that as we read the story of Jesus’ life, death and resurrection in the coming weeks that the students might come into acceptance of their Saviour.”
Renee has demonstrated her long-term passion and call to minister in Japan, investing significantly out of her own time and resource. She believes God has called her to extend her time in Japan to see many lives changed over the coming years. As such, in 2014, Hope City Church will provide financial support to Renee as our field worker in Japan being the hands and feet of Jesus.
Another one of our Hope-sters changing the world.
