On Sunday 17th February we will be having a special service to celebrate 60 years of Hope City Church making a difference in people’s lives. We invite you to join with us at our 9:30am service at Grovely State School Performing Arts Complex to hear from people as they share their personal experience of the difference being part of the church family has made. Afterwards, we invite you to stay around and chat over a special celebration morning tea.
What a great weekend it was.
As we heard of some of the great opportunities opening up in Vietnam and the impact had by our first ever youth team, I couldn’t help but recall the scripture in Zechariah 4:10 – Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin, to see the plumb line in Zerubbabel’s hand.
I remember a handful of people sitting in a borrowed hall at a YWAM base watching a documentary on sex trafficking in Eastern Europe. I still remember the feeling as I stood before that handful of people and said, “Church, I don’t know what we can do, but we have to do something about this.”
Eight years later, the Vietnamese government are pushing the doors open into other areas – actively working to help us achieve our goal of creating a trafficking free zone in the Central Highlands of Vietnam.
And this is just the beginning.
Some 8 years ago, it would have been easy to look at our smallness and the bigness of the problem and not bother trying to make a difference. But the angel made clear to Zechariah … the Lord rejoices to see the work begin.
What is in your life that God would rejoice to see the work begin – but you feel like is a small beginning? What are you holding back from starting because it seems too small? Or you feel too small?
My prayer is that God will begin to put “small beginnings” in your heart and fill you with the courage to begin to pursue them. It may not seem like much but God delights in seeing you start. He knows that if we are willing to start moving, it opens up opportunities for Him to start moving in an extraordinary way.
It might be getting involved somehow. It might be building friendship. It might be inviting someone to church. Whatever it is – just do something!
Think Big. Smart Small. Act Now!
Have a great week
