On Sunday 17th February we will be having a special service to celebrate 60 years of Hope City Church making a difference in people’s lives. We invite you to join with us at our 9:30am service at Grovely State School Performing Arts Complex to hear from people as they share their personal experience of the difference being part of the church family has made. Afterwards, we invite you to stay around and chat over a special celebration morning tea.
Lately I’ve been reflecting back on our last 20 years of church ministry. The reason I left my job as a mechanical engineer and went into ministry was to see people blessed. I felt so grateful for what God had done in my life. I wanted to help others experience the goodness and love of God; even as I had.
As we move into May, our focus is particularly turning to seeing INCREASE in your life. Seeing you blessed. Seeing you live the joy filled life God intended for you. That’s why we’re doing the Blessed Life series starting with our Blessed Life groups next week.
The book of Proverbs 11:24 – 25 (Msg) tells us:
The world of the generous gets larger and larger;
The world of the stingy gets smaller and smaller.
The one who blesses other is abundantly blessed;
Those who help others are helped.
This is something I’ve seen in my own life and in the lives of others time and time again.
When I stop being generous with my time toward others or with my love for others; when I get stingy with my praise and with my words – I can feel my world closing in on me. I get more and more self focused and it feels as though I’m in a rut and running out of options.
When I choose to be generous with my love, my time, my money, my affection and my words – even in the face of tough circumstances – my world gets larger. New opportunities open up. I see things differently. All from living with a generous attitude.
As we embark on our Blessed Life Series, can I encourage you to get into a group and engage with what God is doing in our church. I’m desperate to see you blessed and I know that carrying that generous spirit toward God and others is the doorway to that Blessed Life. Not just a life filled with stuff – but a life filled with joy.
See you on Sunday
