On Sunday 17th February we will be having a special service to celebrate 60 years of Hope City Church making a difference in people’s lives. We invite you to join with us at our 9:30am service at Grovely State School Performing Arts Complex to hear from people as they share their personal experience of the difference being part of the church family has made. Afterwards, we invite you to stay around and chat over a special celebration morning tea.
We’ve so enjoyed starting to catch up with different people around the place over the last week or so … Church is family and you don’t realize how much you miss it until, well … you miss it!
Many years ago, when I was still pursuing Sarah (and she was running away), I went swimming at a youth beach day. After trying to impress her during a vigorous game of beach soccer under a 38º sun, I decided to follow the crowd into the water to swim out to the sandbar. The only catch is … I can’t swim.
About half way out, I found myself out of energy and starting to go under. Sure enough, on my third time going under, I was exhausted and wasn’t coming back up. Just as I thought my life was going to end (with the words, “I’m coming home Jesus” echoing in my head) and my lungs were going to explode from lack of air, a hand reached down and pulled me out of the water onto an inflatable raft. Thank God for Carl Villani!
I still remember the feeling of relief. I still remember breathing clearly – that sigh of relief as oxygen filled my lungs.
I’ve really enjoyed this series we’ve been doing over the last few weeks and it’s been great to hear from many of you that God has been speaking to you through this time also. That’s not a coincidence.
The overwhelming sense I continually get is that God desires this to be a year of favour over your life. This is a year where old things have passed away and the season becomes new. I see expansion in people’s families, work and opportunities.
I see 2017 being that year where many of you take that deep breath you’ve been longing for. After feeling like you’ve been underwater for a long time, God’s hand reaches into your life and brings that sense of being able to breathe a sigh of relief.
The whole point of this series is to equip you so that you won’t miss what God wants to birth in you. So that as God brings this new season, we all lay hold of it with both hands and don’t miss our day of visitation.
If you haven’t had a chance to hear the messages over the last couple of weeks, let me encourage you to go to the website and download the podcasts.
2017 is our year … let’s lay hold of everything God has for us.
We love you and are praying for you. See you on Sunday.
Alex & Sarah.
